Concept

EDC Las Vegas is more than just a music festival. For 3 whole nights the desert turns into a different world where everything is possible. It is exactly what you’d expect of a carnival: an explosion of colors, diversity, lights and activities. There are performers, rides, art, love and celebrating. And the crowd takes this atmosphere to the next level. The people of EDC are as dressed up and colorful as the festival itself. A simple and boring outfit is completely out of the question. That is why the festival claims that the most important headliner is you, the visitor.

Challenge

EDC Las Vegas has a ‘from dusk till dawn’ concept: the festival starts in daylight and ends when the sun is already up. Like at many festivals, this means the decor and lighting has to look good in both daylight and darkness. For the most part, we work in the complete darkness of the desert. This means the stage has to be lighted fully.

Another challenge is the diversity of the acts. One time there is just one DJ performing and the other time we have to light a whole band with a big group of dancers. The lighting set-up needs to be as diverse as the acts, so we can focus on details but also create an entire party of colors and light the full stage.

Result

The stage, designed by 250K, consists of multiple flower-like shapes made out of white cloths. We light up these blank canvases to make them change color. This way we can create all kinds of ambiances. To make the stage look awesome in both daylight and darkness, we work with a balanced set-up of effect lighting and decor lighting.

Our stage, cosmicMEADOW, is the opener of the festival and in 2021 we had the honor to program a huge opening show with fireworks, completely time coded and synchronized with the visuals, the lights and of course the music.

Every year a huge crowd comes from all around the world to celebrate this unique carnival together. After COVID, the hype was bigger than ever. We love the ambiance of this festival. Our favorite part might be the parade of colorful cars and people, making their way into the desert from the city of Las Vegas. It is truly amazing to watch. See you next year, EDC!
